About Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center
Our mission: To partner with the community to help save and sustain lives by providing a safe supply of blood, blood components and related services.
Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center began operations on Jan. 1, 1975. Serving the largest medical campus in the world, The Blood Center has grown to more than 700 employees and serves more than 170 hospitals and health care institutions in the 26-county Texas Gulf Coast, Brazos Valley and East Texas regions.
To meet the needs of the area community, The Blood Center must collect 323,000 units in 2013, and more than 1,000 donations every day. That is why The Blood Center encourages individuals to Commit for Life, which is a partnership between the community and Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center that is focused on saving lives, today... and in the future. It takes three easy steps:
- Donate once per quarter;
- Allow The Blood Center to contact you; and
- Spread the word, encouraging others to Commit for Life.
To make this possible, The Blood Center offers 16 conveniently located Neighborhood Donor Centers and several mobile blood drives almost every day so individuals can help save more lives.
Individuals who become Commit for Life members with Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center not only have the benefit of helping save lives, but also the wonderful benefits that come along with being a member. Some of the many benefits include:
- Access to Digital Donor;
- Commit for Life store points with every donation;
- Wellness check (mini-physical), which includes blood pressure, cholesterol level, blood type and more with every donation; and
- Advanced Wellness Check for gold-level members.
Blood donations help patients with a wide variety of needs, including accident victims, cancer patients, premature babies and more. It takes about 24 hours to process every blood donation, so it's the blood on the shelf that saves lives today. Every blood donation helps save as many as three lives.
Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization and is accredited, licensed and inspected by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), AABB as well as local and state authorities. The Blood Center is a proud member of AABB, Blood Centers of America, South Central Association of Blood Banks, the Texas Medical Center and America's Blood Centers.
Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center is an independent, nonprofit blood center that is not affiliated with the American Red Cross.
