Holiday Hugs

Holiday HugsOur Holiday Hugs promotion is in full swing. Thanks to our volunteers coming together to attach the messages of well wishes from donors to the bears, our employees have been able to begin delivering the bears to patients at area hospitals. The process of delivering the bears is a heart-warming experience that every employee who participate really enjoys.

“It’s really fun to get out and connect with the kids during the holiday season. Seeing just how appreciative they are of the bears, and seeing those big smiles make everything that we are doing as part of Holiday Hugs a great experience,” Media and Events Coordinator, Tammie Riley, said.

Not only is it a great way for employees to bond with people in the community, it is also a good reminder of just how important the work that is done at The Blood Center is.

“We know that what we do is important, but to actually meet patients and their families, and hear their stories in person puts things in a much different perspective. It makes you want to do even more to help them. I think it’s great for us to see them because it is motivating, and it’s good for them to see us because it shows them just how much we care,” Tammie said.

Blood Center employees will continue making deliveries throughout the area for the rest of December to spread the holiday spirit. Our Holiday Hugs promotion is something that we take great pride in, and look forward to continuing for years to come.

Overcoming fear: Donating blood for the first time

I’m a scaredy-cat. I readily admit it. I hate needles. That’s always been my excuse for why I don’t volunteer for anything with a needle. Flu shot? No way. Vaccines? I still remember the sheer terror I felt from them growing up.
