Stating the Obvious: Blood Donors Love to Do Good

Did you know that common traits among blood donors are a healthy lifestyle and the desire to good for others?

Sugar Land Community Advocate Lydia Bourg is a shining example. As an Advocate, she spreads the word about blood needs in Fort Bend County. But she doesn’t stop there.

During the holidays her group collects wrapping paper for a charity that gives gifts to underprivileged children. The Advocates also plan Christmas shopping excursions to benefit families referred by Fort Bend County Social Services.

Many in Lydia’s family, including her husband John, have battled with cancer. She faithfully supports the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.

John, donning a cowboy hat, walks in the Relay for Life. Cancer survivors wear purple shirts.

In the Houston area, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved with organizations that make our city a better place to live. What are some of your favorite ways to get involved in your community?
