Melissa Fisher joined the Blood Center staff in August 1995 as director of business operations. Before coming to The Blood Center, Fisher had been an audit manager with the public accounting firm of Ernst and Young in Houston, Texas. As an audit manager, Fisher gained valuable experience serving public and privately held companies from development stage to mature, multi-location, with domestic and international operations.

Ms. Fisher received her BBA in accounting from the College of Business Administration at Texas A&M University in 1989. She received her CPA license in 1992. In August 1999, Ms. Fisher was appointed chief financial officer. In this position, she has the responsibility for the departments of risk management, business operations, and building and fleet management.
During her Blood Center tenure, Fisher has also involved herself in
community and professional activities. She is a member of the Greater
Houston Partnership's Executive Women's Partnership and currently serves
on its steering committee; has been a member of the group purchasing
committee of America's Blood Centers; and, has participated in the
Texas Medical Center's wayfinding and signage subcommittee. Additionally,
Ms. Fisher has been a member of the audit committee of the American
Association of Blood Banks and the finance committee of America's Blood
Centers. She was a board member and co-chairman of the programs committee
and is currently vice president of the Healthcare Financial Management
Association - Texas Gulf Coast.
Ms. Fisher and her husband Howard are avid outdoors people, Native Texans, and active members of Bellaire United Methodist Church, where Ms. Fisher has served on its finance and audit committee.
