Local Family Seeks Blood Donations For Baby Brandon
Replenishment Blood Drive to Benefit Premature Baby with Life-Threatening Disease
Baby Brandon Brooks is less than four months old, but since doctors diagnosed him with a life-threatening disease, his tiny body has undergone six blood transfusions and countless treatments. On Jan. 30, he was born seven weeks premature to Kingwood parents Mickey and Jimmy Brooks. Because Brandon’s life depends on voluntary blood donations, the public is encouraged to support him at a replenishment blood drive April 30 at Kingwood’s Merry Go Round boutique on Woodland Hills Drive.

Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy Daniel Arcenaux is no stranger to saving lives. His profession requires a passion for helping people, and that passion continues after the work day ends. Arcenaux, a Commit for Life blood donor and resident of southwest Houston, saves as many as three lives each time he donates blood.
Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center selected Arcenaux to appear on the May page of its 2008 Commit for Life calendar to spread the word about making a life-saving difference by becoming a regular blood donor. “It’s important to give blood not only to save lives, but to extend lives,” he says. “You never know who you can help.”

Individuals in greater Houston will now have more opportunities to save lives with the addition of a new donor coach to the fleet at Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center. The coach will cater to donor comfort and convenience and help meet the escalating need for blood in the area.
The Houston area is growing, and so is our medical community. This means more donations and donor coaches are needed to save patients’ lives. A new donor coach can help bring in 5,000 additional donations every year. Since every donation saves up to three lives, these donations can save up to 15,000 lives every year in this community.
