Eighteen-year-old Alief Taylor High School student Emilia Espitia is the second winner of a pair of Continental Airlines tickets for travel in the contiguous U.S. as part of Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center's "Save Lives and See the World" promotion.

For Espitia, knowing she has helped patients like her mother was enough of a prize. In February 2005, her mother underwent a surgical procedure and depended on several units of blood to help save her life. Today, Espitia Commits for Life and dedicates this prize in her mother's honor.

"I've traveled to several places, but my parents never really had a honeymoon," Espitia said. "I think I'll surprise them and give them the tickets."

As a high school student, Espitia first began donating with the National Honor Society when she was 17. She encourages others her age to Commit for Life and help save three lives with their one donation.

Commit for Life members who donate or attempt to donate during the month of November still have a chance to register to win a pair of Continental Airlines tickets for travel in the contiguous United States. Two lucky winners will also have a chance to win a pair of BusinessFirst tickets to visit select international destinations.
