Sugar Land Blood Donor Wins Watches in 'Diamonds for Donors' Giveaway

Sugar Land resident Daniel Smith is the proud winner of a set of his and hers Fossil-brand Commit for Life watches from Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center. Smith is one of 12 winners to receive a set of watches through The Blood Center's Diamonds for Donors promotion, in which all who donated in April and May were eligible.

Smith, who flies Boeing 777's as a pilot for United Airlines, has been donating blood since he was a college student. Today he donates at the Sugar Land Neighborhood Donor Center at 4949 Sweetwater Blvd.

"I donate every chance I get," says Smith. "Especially during the holidays when more donations are needed."

Smith likes the fact that he can check his iron levels and other important health information. Once a quarter, he donates blood through apheresis, giving double red cells, platelets or plasma based on what is needed at the time.

Individuals are encouraged to make it a life-saving summer by donating blood. Those who donate twice between June 1 and Sept. 30 will be eligible to win a complimentary gift card to Target.
