Gold-level groups take spotlight in ‘A Celebration of Life’
Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center’s biggest year ever for saving lives brought accolades to hundreds of gold-level Commit for Life groups at “A Celebration of Life” luncheon and awards ceremony on Feb. 13.
The annual event honors groups that have followed the “Path for Success” by hosting blood drives at least once a quarter. More groups were recognized at this year’s event than ever before, with more than 700 earning “Path for Success” awards.
Groups that went above and beyond to help save lives in 2007 also earned Special Category Awards. Winners in the following categories were:
-Church of the Year – Memorial Drive United Methodist Church
-Community Advocate Group of the Year – Cy-Fair Community Advocates
-Community Group of the Year – Huntsville Churches
-Corporation of the Year – Germania Insurance
-Event of the Year – Gringo’s Mexican Kitchen
-Hospital of the Year – Brazosport Regional Health Center
-Media Group of the Year – Univision
-New Group of the Year – St. Theresa Catholic Church
-School of the Year – Brenham High School
-Small Business of the Year – Texas Gulf Bank
The Bill T. Teague Award, which is presented to an individual who embodies the spirit of Commit for Life, was awarded this year to Marsha Asplin. She is a chairperson for St. Peter’s United Methodist Church in Katy, a member of the Katy Community Advocates, a volunteer in multiple capacities and one of only two women to achieve more than 100 gallons with Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center. Asplin received a pair of tickets for travel to any destination in the contiguous United States, courtesy of Continental Airlines, the official airline of Commit for Life.
