GULF COAST REGIONAL BLOOD CENTER EXPANDS OPERATIONS TO BRYAN/COLLEGE STATION AREA
The Blood Center of Brazos Valley Opens Offering Life-Saving Opportunities and Jobs for Area Community

Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center today announces the expansion of its operations to the Bryan/College Station area as it opens The Blood Center of Brazos Valley.  As the primary supplier of blood products to hospitals and healthcare facilities in Brazos Valley, The Blood Center not only will provide more convenient access for area hospitals, but also more opportunities for Brazos Valley residents to Commit for Life and help save lives in their community. Last year alone, hospitals in Brenham, Bryan, College Station and neighboring communities need approximately 10,000 units of blood, so the expansion comes at a perfect time as the area hospitals and community grow.

“Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center has held blood drives and has been the primary supplier of blood products to hospitals in Bryan, College Station and other Brazos Valley communities for many years with operations out of Houston,” said Brian G. Gannon, president and CEO of Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center. “We are now pleased to offer these services directly from our new location, The Blood Center of Brazos Valley, as well as open up new job opportunities for the area community.”

The expansion announcement also has pleased area hospitals, which have been partners with The Blood Center for many years.

“Our hospital has made significant developments in the past year by making notable advancements in our cardiovascular and neonatal ICU programs,” said Thomas Jackson, chief executive officer for the College Station Medical Center. “Without the blood we receive from The Blood Center, these life-saving procedures wouldn’t be possible.” 

St. Joseph Health System’s Chief Executive Officer, Jack Buckley, Jr., echoes Jackson’s sentiments by saying, “Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center is our primary provider for blood products. The blood donations from our community are essential to our specialized surgical programs and very much support our Accredited Chest Pain Center.  Even if a patient doesn’t need blood during the surgery, it still must be available should the need arise.  Now with the opening of The Blood Center of Brazos Valley, blood products will be immediately available in our community, from our community.”

The Blood Center of Brazos Valley currently is looking for a team of individuals, from management to entry level, to assist in the organization’s life-saving efforts in the Brazos Valley.  The Blood Center of Brazos Valley plans to start operations in January 2008 and will office in the College Station Professional Building 1 at 1605 Rock Prairie Road, Suite 315A, in College Station until the center’s larger, permanent location is completed by the end of 2008.
