Brian G. Gannon

President/CEO

Since Brian G. Gannon joined Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center as president and CEO in February 2006, The Blood Center's Commit for Life program has seen phenomenal growth, with more than a quarter of a million current Commit for Life donors giving blood and saving lives on a regular basis.

Mr. Gannon brings more than 20 years experience as a health care administrator and executive and eight years in corporate product management, and he is uniquely qualified to meet the challenge of providing for the transfusion needs of the world's largest medical community.

Serving for 14 years as president and CEO of The Blood Center for Southeast Louisiana excellently prepared Mr. Gannon for his role here. Prior to his tenure in Louisiana, he held numerous leadership positions, including chief operating officer of Belle Bonfils Memorial Blood Center and Neurosciences Program Administrator at the Swedish Medical Center, both in Denver. His appointment as president and CEO of Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center was a homecoming for Mr. Gannon, as earlier in his career he was a product manager at Armco Steel in Houston.

Mr. Gannon holds a Master of Business Administration degree in Management and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Southwestern Louisiana.

Dr. Susan Rossmann

Dr. Susan Rossmann

Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Susan Rossmann is the first Chief Medical Officer of The Blood Center. She joined the staff in September 2001 from her position as director of the blood bank and director of the microbiology and serology departments at Texas Children's Hospital.

Dr. Rossmann completed her undergraduate studies at Mount Holyoke College and received an MA and Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of Michigan. In 1989, she received her M.D. from Baylor College of Medicine, where she also completed her residency in anatomic and clinical pathology. She is board certified in both anatomic and clinical pathology and certified in blood banking/transfusion medicine by the American Board of Pathology.

Dr. Rossmann was actively involved with The Blood Center, even before joining the executive staff. She held memberships on the technical advisory and the education and research committees. Rossmann is also an inspector with the College of American Pathologists' laboratory accreditation committee and a blood bank standards assessor with the American Association of Blood Banks.

Granville Betton

Granville Betton

Vice President, Operations

Granville Betton joined Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center as Vice President of Operations in February 2015. He oversees the areas of Donor Collections, Product Management, Client Services, Donor Recruitment, Regional Operations and the Commit for Life Program.

Mr. Betton has 30 years of experience in operations, manufacturing, quality and process improvement and has successfully guided teams across multiple locations, driven revenue growth and ensured excellence in service delivery.

After graduating from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, he accepted a position as an engineer with DuPont before then joining GE.  Over the course of his 17 years with GE, he held positions of increasing complexity and responsibility, eventually becoming General Manager, Global Quality and Environmental Health and Safety for GE Healthcare Services. 

From GE he joined Momentive Specialty Chemicals, Inc. in upstate New York.  He was subsequently recruited to Houston and worked at Nexeo Solutions, a chemical and plastics distribution company, and InterWrap, Inc., a manufacturer of innovative woven products headquartered in Vancouver, Canada, before joining Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center.

Caron Cousins Baker

Caron Cousins Baker

Chief Technical Officer

Caron Cousins Baker, a member of Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center's management staff since 1997, served as director, national donor testing services until 2000. In this position, she was responsible for all infectious disease laboratory testing at The Blood Center as well as for client blood centers in and outside of the Texas Gulf Coast region.

She also directed all aspects of the planning and implementation of nucleic acid testing protocols. Additionally she has had responsibility for required quality planning and implementation of new technology providing improved efficiencies and enhanced cGMPs for testing processes.

Ms. Cousins Baker received her BS degree in biology from Marian College and completed her specialist in blood banking requirements at Milwaukee Blood Center. Prior to joining The Blood Center's staff, she held positions of increasing responsibility at LifeSource Blood Services in Chicago, IL. Just prior to her move, she was managing director, quality programs and responsible head. She also gained critical blood banking background with Gamma Biologicals in Houston, the American Red Cross, and the North Suburban Blood Center in Glenview, IL.

In 2000, she was appointed chief technical officer at The Blood Center. In this position, she assumed responsibility for laboratory services, national testing services and education and training.

Ms. Cousins Baker is a past president of the Chicagoland Blood Bank Society and held various positions with the Council of Community Blood Centers. She is also active with the AABB and America's Blood Centers.

Eric Eaton

Chief Financial Officer

Eric Eaton joined Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center in January 2007 as Director of Business Operations. Mr. Eaton was promoted to Chief Financial Officer of The Blood Center in March 2016. In this position, he is responsible for overseeing the Risk Management, Building and Fleet Management and Business Operations departments at The Blood Center.

He graduated with his Bachelor of Business Administration from Sam Houston State University and received a CPA certification from the State of Oklahoma. Following his graduation, he accepted a job at the Oklahoma State Auditor’s Office as a State Auditor and was promoted to Audit Manager, where he not only led and performed audits of many state and local agencies, but was responsible for quality control reviews and preparation of the State’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Reports and State-Wide Single Audit Reports.

Following his time with the Oklahoma State Auditor’s Office, he accepted a job with McConnell, Jones, Lanier, & Murphy LLP as an Audit Manager. During his tenure there, he was promoted to Director of Quality Assurance where he gained valuable experience working with non-profit organizations such as the NAACP, MS Society, and the Gulf Coast Community Services Association that helped to further prepare him for his role at The Blood Center. 

He has nearly 30 years of experience in diversified management and accounting and has significantly increased the fiscal standing of every company where he has been employed.

The Blood Center helping nationwide during times of crisis

Thanks to dedicated donors who have ensured an adequate supply is available local patients, The Blood Center has been able to assist blood centers nationwide during times of crisis in 2016. Most recently, The Blood Center sent blood to Florida after the state was unable to collect during Hurricane Matthew.

New source plasma donation sites added to Blood Center roster

Source plasma is the latest blood component that The Blood Center has begun to collect in an effort to help save more lives. Source plasma is a component that is used to make therapeutic proteins, which are lifesaving medicines for patients battling more than 80 different diseases.

New weight requirements for donors between the ages of 16 to 18

As of Aug. 16, donors between the ages of 16 to 18 must be at least 122 pounds to donate. This is latest step The Blood Center is taking to help reduce the risk of donor reactions and injuries, which are more common among smaller, younger donors.
