
Elizabeth A. Hartwell, M.D
Chief Medical Officer
Elizabeth A. Hartwell, M.D. serves as the Chief Medical Officer and oversees medical direction for donor suitability and donor care, donor and patient testing, hospital consultation, cell therapy, and various research activities . She earned her undergraduate degrees at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM, and then completed both Medical Technology and SBB training programs. She received her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School in Houston (now McGovern Medical School) and is board certified in both Clinical Pathology and Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine. Prior to rejoining Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center in 2021, she previously held leadership positions at several hospitals as Associate Chief of Clinical Pathology and Medical Director of the blood donor center at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center, and Chief of Clinical Pathology and Medical Director of the Transfusion Service at Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center. Dr. Hartwell, an Adjunct Clinical Professor at Baylor College of Medicine, is deeply passionate about teaching and remains actively involved in educating medical professionals at all levels, including technologists, medical students, residents, and physicians. When not working, Dr. Hartwell enjoys spending time outdoors with both friends and 4-legged companions.
