Formerly restricted vCJD donors are now eligible
If you were previously deferred from donating blood due to geographic risk factors due to variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (vCJD), we have exciting news to share. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has lifted its deferral for potential exposure to vCJD.
The update applies to people who have traveled, lived, or had a transfusion in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and France from 1980 to the present. As long as you meet all other donor eligibility requirements, you can now contribute to saving lives through a blood donation.
