Winter Weather Advisory In Effect for Blood Donors In Our Region
Houston - A Winter weather advisory is in effect as freezing temperatures threaten our Gulf Coast Area and blood collections. Several blood drives have been canceled for tomorrow, hindering our on-hand blood supply. As more businesses and organizations we partner with for blood drives make preparations due to the storm, we could see more cancellations before the end of the day.
We are in immediate need of:
- Blood Donors
- Locations to host blood drives
Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center is asking all eligible donors to commit to donating more frequently to maintain the constant need for blood in our community and to replenish our on-hand supply for any unforeseen emergencies such as freezing temperatures.
Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center needs about 1,000 blood donations a day to serve our community's 170 hospitals and healthcare facilities.
Those feeling healthy should check giveblood.org for an available appointment. The donation process is quick, easy, and can be done at any Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center location.
Churches, businesses, organizations, and community groups are encouraged to host blood drives in their community. Hosting a blood drive is free, and you can truly impact many lives. Those who are interested can go to www.giveblood.org/host-a-blood-drive to get started.
Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center is the sole provider of blood and blood components 24/7 to more than 170 hospitals and health care facilities in a 26-county Texas Gulf Coast region. Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center is a nonprofit organization and is accredited by the Food and Drug Administration.
