Whole Blood Donations
A whole blood donation is the most common and flexible type of donation. During the process, one pint of blood is collected and separated into three components:
-
Plasma – supports burn victims and patients in shock.
-
Platelets – critical for patients with leukemia and other cancers.
-
Red Blood Cells – often needed for surgery patients, premature babies, and trauma victims.
The power to save lives is in you — one donation can help up to three people. The best part? The process takes about an hour from start to finish, with the actual blood draw lasting just five to ten minutes, and you’re eligible to donate again every 56 days.

Automated Donations
Automated donations use advanced technology to collect only the blood components patients need most, while safely returning the rest to you. Depending on your blood type and patient demand, you may be asked to give:
- Red Blood Cells are essential for patients facing cancer treatment, surgery, or traumatic injuries. Your donation restores strength and supports recovery when it matters most.
- Platelets are crucial for cancer patients and those undergoing bone marrow transplants. Your donation offers hope and improves quality of life during their toughest battles.
- Plasma replaces vital fluids for burn victims and trauma patients. Donating plasma provides the support they need to stabilize, heal, and recover.
Donor Eligibility for Automated Donations
To donate through this process, you must meet the following age and weight requirements:
-
Age 16–18: minimum 115 lbs (males) / 120 lbs (females)
