Every year, Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center helps save the lives of hundreds of thousands of patients in Southeast Texas, but we can't do it alone.
We are the only blood provider to Houston and its surrounding communities 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In order to serve our patients, we partner with media and businesses from across the region to spread the word about the importance of blood donations.
We are one of the largest community blood centers in the United States, serving 26 counties from the Texas Gulf Coast to Brazos Valley to East Texas and more than 170 hospitals and health care institutions. Our facilities include Blood Center East Texas (Lufkin, Nacogdoches) and Blood Center of Brazos Valley (College Station).
To meet the community's needs, we need 1,000 donations a day, and all blood donors in the U.S. must be unpaid volunteers. Those units of blood are a vital lifeline for Houston’s health care industry and are used in surgeries, cancer treatments and various medical procedures.
Blood donors want to make a difference. They want to leave an impact. At Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center, our mission is to help save and sustain lives, but donors are the hero of this story.
Donors make it possible for patients and their families to offer silent thanks and prayers as, drop-by-drop, energy is restored and skin regains color. Blood cannot be manufactured. One person must voluntarily give it to another. That’s why blood donors are so important, not only to us but to hundreds of thousands of patients in our community. They are depending on you.
Donors are not donating blood — they're giving more time, more smiles and more hugs. They're giving life.
