Gulf Coast Blood, Kroger Launch Summer Drives to Support Local Patients

Gulf Coast Blood and Kroger are kicking off summer with a weeklong push to boost the local blood supply. From June 1–7, 2025, select Kroger locations across Greater Houston will host blood drives to support patient care and encourage donors to make blood donation a regular habit.
Summer often brings a dip in blood donations as schools break and families travel, but the need for blood remains steady year-round. Maintaining a strong and ready blood supply helps ensure our community can continue to meet patient needs, respond to emergencies, and stay prepared during hurricane season.
“The blood that saves lives in emergencies is the blood already on the shelves,” said Theresa Pina, Gulf Coast Blood Chief Growth Officer. “That’s why it’s so important to have a constant, ready supply—and partnerships like this one with Kroger help make that possible. By making donation part of your routine, you’re helping ensure blood is available before it’s urgently needed.”
As a proud community partner, Kroger is teaming up with Gulf Coast Blood to host blood drives across the Greater Houston area. The company is committed to supporting the health and well-being of the communities it serves and living out its purpose of feeding the human spirit.
“At Kroger, giving back is part of who we are,” said Dr. Marla Fielder, Division Health and Wellness Leader. “Partnering with Gulf Coast Blood is one meaningful way we can support our neighbors and encourage our customers and associates to come together to help save lives.”
Donors who give blood at select Kroger drives will receive a free A1c diabetes screening and a $25 eGift card. A $10 Kroger gift card will also be offered while supplies last. Donors can sign up at giveblood.org/Kroger.
