Keeping Our Blood Supply Strong During Spring Break
Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center is calling on the community to donate blood during spring break to ensure that blood is readily available for patients in need. Spring break is a time of rest and relaxation; however, accidents and emergencies can happen at any time, and blood donations are needed to save lives.
A Celebration of Life Event 2023
Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center is celebrating our annual “A Celebration of Life” event on February 16, 2023. Our A Celebration of Life is designed to recognize and celebrate the groups that have dedicated themselves to saving lives through blood drives. As part of the event, we also invite a blood recipient to talk about their story and how blood donations have impacted their life.
Contributions, Sacrifices and Achievements
February is Black History Month, and Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center is honoring the achievements and remarkable contributions of Black Americans in our community. Each year, we strive to honor the legacy of Dr. Charles Drew, the father of blood banking and a pioneer in blood storage techniques, as we encourage our community to keep his legacy alive by donating blood.
Proposed FDA Guidance on Blood Donations
The long-awaited change is near! Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center is reviewing the new proposal from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that could ease restrictions on gay and bisexual men as blood donors. The FDA’s proposal to move to an assessment of sexual behavior of individuals, regardless of gender, will maintain the safety of our nation’s blood supply while treating all donors with the fairness, equality, and respect they deserve.
Beads and Saving Lives: It’s a Mardi Gras Thing
Let the good times roll! Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center and Mardi Gras! Galveston has partnered for another year to save lives and help replenish our community's ongoing need for blood. Donors will receive a ticket to Mardi Gras! Galveston 2023 when they successfully donate blood from January 30 to February 6, 2023.
One Hour Changes Everything
January is National Blood Donor Month, and Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center is celebrating blood donors and encouraging our community to roll up their sleeves and donate blood in an effort to replenish our on-hand blood supply for the many patients in need. The need for blood donors is essential and one hour of your time changes everything.
BEARing Gifts – A Season of Giving
'Tis the season of giving back as Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center expands its Holiday Hugs tradition by partnering with BE A Resource for CPS Kids (BEAR) for a holiday toy drive. Donors will have an added opportunity to bring holiday cheer to children in need, Nov. 1-Dec.31, 2022.
Think Pink and Donate Blood
Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center is raising awareness and asking our community to donate blood this October to help replenish the ongoing needs and to raise awareness for a disease that affects millions of women each year, breast cancer.
Let’s Trade Pints
Saint Arnold Brewing Company has been partnering with Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center since 2016 and continues to support our mission to save lives. They have graciously donated beer vouchers, good for one free pint of beer at their taphouse, to all successful donors 21 years of age and up who donate Oct. 1–31, 2022.
Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and Donate Blood
Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15. We are honoring the many Hispanic donors, volunteers, employees, and partners who support our mission to save lives. The Hispanic community is crucial in helping build a more diverse blood supply for patients.
Huzzah, The Kingdom Calls For Its Heroes

Local blood donors are in for a sweet treat during August 2022. Dunkin' of Houston is teaming up with Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center to provide 25,000 vouchers to Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center donors in the region during August.
Local Blood Center Keeps it Local After 30 Years
Dating back to 1990, Blue Bell Creameries has consistently been saving lives with Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center by donating vouchers for free pints of ice cream to thank donors for their donations. Promotional items give donors an extra incentive and encourage the community to roll up their sleeves and donate blood.
Preparing Our Nation When Disaster Strikes
Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center has joined Blood Emergency Readiness Corps (BERC) as part of the nation’s first emergency blood reserve. BERC comprises 33 blood centers from across the nation that has committed to collecting extra blood units on a rotating, “on-call” schedule. These reserved blood products will be held for large-scale emergencies requiring blood transfusions.
Cellular Life Solutions Receives FACT Accreditation
Cellular Life Solutions, a division of Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center, now has FACT accreditation, marking it as a premier collection center for cellular therapy products.
