U.S. Blood System: Safety, Availability, and Thoughts About the Future

This year's Bill T. Teague Lectureship in Transfusion Medicine honors Dr. Jay Menitove, former CEO/Medical Director of the Community Blood Center of Greater Kansas City.
Dr. Menitove is a Clinical Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Kansas University Medical Center. He is board certified in internal medicine, hematology, and blood banking. Dr. Menitove also serves as an Associate Editor for Transfusion, chaired the HHS Advisory Committee on Blood and Tissue Safety and Availability, and is a past president of AABB. His academic interests include transfusion safety, blood donation, and sustainability of the U.S. blood system.
Additionally, Dr. Menitove provides consultations assisting hospitals seeking blood management and patient outcome improvements. He is the author or co-author of more than 160 journal articles, textbook chapters, and other publications.
