Season of Service  

This holiday season, participating civic organizations across the Greater Houston, Brazos Valley and East Texas area are partnering with Gulf Coast Blood to help strengthen the community blood supply during one of the most critical weeks of the year for blood donations. As part of the Season of Service Campaign, civic groups will encourage members, friends, and the community to donate blood during the week of December 20 through December 26, when blood donations traditionally decline due to holiday travel and vacation schedules. 

Civic organizations have long been dedicated to serving their communities, and this partnership provides an opportunity to make an even greater impact. Schools and colleges make up about 20% of all donations during the Academic Year. When school is out, the blood supply feels it.  

Through the 20 for 20% Challenge, each participating organization is encouraged to recruit 20 blood donors to help offset the seasonal decrease in donations and ensure lifesaving blood is available for patients in local hospitals.

Flex for Life  

As we approach the new year, participating gyms and fitness centers across the Greater Houston, Brazos Valley and East Texas area are partnering with Gulf Coast Blood to help strengthen the community blood supply during a critical time of year. As part of Flex for Life, taking place December 27 through January 2, fitness communities are coming together to support local patients while promoting health, wellness, and service. 

Together, Gulf Coast Blood and participating fitness partners are creating a Culture of Wellness that extends beyond the gym and into the community. Donors will also receive a free Cholesterol Check through December 31st as a personal benefit. 

Groups will receive medals based on participation milestones. Which fitness center is truly the strongest in supporting the community?

Mayor’s Challenge 

This January, mayors across the Greater Houston, Brazos Valley and East Texas area are partnering with Gulf Coast Blood to rally their communities around a lifesaving cause. As part of the Mayor's Challenge, participating cities will encourage residents, businesses, civic groups, and community organizations to donate blood and help strengthen the local blood supply. 

January is recognized as National Blood Donor Month since it was signed as a Proclamation in 1970 by President Nixon. Our local mayors are getting behind this cause and helping promote blood donation as a great first good deed of the year for the community. 

The Mayor's Community Challenge is more than a competition. It is an opportunity for cities to showcase their commitment to community service and demonstrate what can be accomplished when residents unite around a common cause.  

Together, Gulf Coast Blood and participating mayors are building stronger communities.
